Chase Hawk // Oakley

Chase Hawk is one of the few pro BMXers to come out of Austin, Texas. Renowned for his style and his vast trick list across various riding disciplines, he’s established himself as one of the premier talents in the sport. Whether in competition, free-riding or video parts, you can’t not keep your eye on Chase Hawk.

Oakley wanted us to create a film that focused on Chase and living in Austin so we¬†started brainstorming concepts. We decided on the idea of a journey, Chase’s journey through a day of riding. Starting with waking up, getting ready and then out the door to ride, pedaling around town and to different spots where he would session. The journey itself from spot to spot is sometimes the most fun, launching off different curbs, wall rides and every everything in-between. It’s the flow as you ride down the street, you feel free. This is the feeling we wanted to create, it’s about the journey, not the destination.

joe, have always loved your work – recently picked up a nicer DSLR to shoot some stuff for work and came to your site for inspiration. I remember the first time I watched this video of chase – just like the ARF video, you evoke emotion and it’s the biggest lesson i’ll take away from this little inspiration session. thanks for always making rad stuff!

Just recently came across you guys. Love what you did with a very small crew with this shoot and impressed with your ability to direct, pull focus, and shoot all at the same time! I can sometimes struggle on our projects of when to shoot and when to give the camera to someone else and to focus on direction. A lot of factors there, Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Karl. It’s not always easy to do all of it at the same time but on some shoots it’s more efficient to work with the small crew. Good luck with your work!
